Firefox is equipped with tabbed browsing which is very useful and lets us do your work in a managed and clutter less way. Tabs in Firefox can be opened with 5(+1) ways. Read on.
1. The Simple File=>New Tab Option: The ol’ good way of opening tabs in any browser. Click File and select New tab
2. Ctrl+T: Press Ctrl+T keys on your keyboard to open a new tab. A quick and easy way of opening tabs.
3. Double Click on an empty space in the tab bar: When you double click on an empty space in the tab bar, a new tab gets opened.

4. Double Click under an already open tab: There is some little space under an already open tab where you can double click to open a new tab. Useful if you have your tab bar full without any empty space (if no empty space, then step 3 cannot be used, so this comes into action)

5. Right Click on an already open tab: And select new tab.
5+1. Use Middle Mouse Button: When opening several links on a web page, you can use the middle mouse button (wheel) to click on link. This way the links will be opened in new tabs. With the middle mouse button, you can also close tabs, just click on them with it.
Enjoy opening tabs :D

I use
2
4
and the 5+1th ways.
The Killer one is the 5+1 th. I love that.
It comes into great use while searching.
Right from the results page, i cuould open 7-10 tabs without leaving the search page. :)
And the 4th one, is a bit tricky to trigger. !!

Cool list, I only knew 4 of those methods to open tabs. Never knew about the mouse wheel.
BTW, you can also keep the Ctrl key pressed while clicking a link to open in a new tab.

@Aravind
Yeah, the 4th one is a little difficult to make use of. My favorite is the mouse wheel one :D

@Nirmal
I used to use CTRL+Left click earlier but now i prefer the mouse wheel because only one hand in employed in the task ;)

Thanks for the tips, I like the mouse wheel one! I used another way (6+1?) to open tabs: right click on a tab and choose new tab, but it does not work when there are no tabs yet. Doubleclicking in the open space is easier though.

you could also add the “Open a new tab” button to the toolbar using ‘Customize’

I’m surprised nobody mentioned these but here’s one obvious and one not so obvious one:
1. Right click a link and select “Open Link in New Tab”
2. Drag a link to the “tab bar” and it will open it, in a new tab.

I just added the button to my toolbar (you know, right click on tool bar, and “customize”). Works good for me. I can also be seen using any of the other methods except 4, I didn’t know that one. I guess it just depends on how I feel.

You forgot the optional Tab Button that can be put on the Navigation Toolbar. If using stumble (which is how I found this post) then you probably have a hand on the mouse and clicking a button to open a new tab is super easy.

You can also download firegestures, click the right mouse button and move the mouse up to open a new tab. Brilliant extention, that makes surfing a lot easier:)

You can also customise the toolbar and add the “new tab” icon and use that to open new tabs.

I use all of those except the 1st and fourth ones but i also use another way: Drag a link or selected plaintext url into the tab bar.

I use all-in-one gestures to open new tabs-so much faster. Right click, move mouse up, new tab opens :smile:

I actually broke the scroll wheel (middle click) after 3 years of opening tabs with it - obviously wasn’t designed for prolonged use with firefox!

I hold down left click, and click right click. I’ve gotten so used to it now, very simple. All thanks to a certain add on, of course.
